Chelsea in talks over move for QPR’s Remy

Loic Remy’s representatives are speaking to Chelsea about a potential move to Stamford Bridge for the QPR striker.

Remy is keen to join the Blues or Arsenal and with neither club having made a firm approach despite numerous reports in recent months of them being interested, Fernando Torres’ expected departure means Chelsea are now looking for a replacement.

They have agreed a two-year loan deal with AC Milan for Torres, who is discussing personal terms and is due to undergo a medical.

As of around 9am today, QPR had not received an approach from Chelsea and were still planning to include Remy in their squad for the home game against Sunderland this afternoon.

On Friday morning Remy rejected a move to Newcastle, where he spent last season on loan, after the Magpies submitted an offer in a final attempt to sign him.

He joined QPR from Marseille for £8m in January last year on the understanding he would be able to join a top-four club for the same fee.

Rangers have offered him a new contract and on Friday afternoon – prior to the Torres deal being announced – they were increasingly confident he would remain at Loftus Road and sign an improved deal early next week.

His departure shortly before the transfer window closes is an outcome they hoped to avoid, but they expect to complete the signing of long-time target Kolbeinn Sigthorsson before Monday’s deadline.

A £5m fee was agreed with Ajax some time ago and after several weeks of posturing over personal terms, progress has been made and Rangers are looking to tie up a deal for the 24-year-old Iceland forward.

Meanwhile, Lassana Diarra is due to undergo a medical at QPR later today.

The 29-year-old was at Chelsea, Arsenal and then Portsmouth, where played under R’s boss Harry Redknapp, who is looking to sign at least one midfielder in the next couple of days and would also like to bring in West Ham’s Momo Diame.

Diarra is a free agent after his recent departure from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow and wants to return to London.
