Everton ‘will go for revenge’ – Hiddink

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink believes Everton will be out to avenge their 2009 FA Cup final defeat when the two teams meet in next month’s quarter-finals.

The Blues will travel to Goodison Park after dispatching Manchester City 5-1 in the fifth round on Sunday.

Chelsea beat Everton at Wembley in Hiddink’s first spell in charge, and five of the Toffees line-up that day – Tim Howard, Leighton Baines, Steven Pienaar, Leon Osman and Tony Hibbert – remain at the club.

Hiddink said: “It was a long time ago. I have good memories but that’s the past.

“They will remember that as well. Some might still be in the team so they’ll go for revenge.

“We had a difficult game against them here [in a 3-3 draw]. We hope to maintain our flow in the FA Cup when we play them there. It won’t be easy.”

Hiddink added Chelsea would continue to take the FA Cup, their most realistic chance of silverware this season, seriously.

He said:”We must not forget the tradition of English football. I remember watching the FA Cup as a youngster on TV, it’s the temple of football.

“Winning the FA Cup is beautiful worldwide. We must be careful not to devalue it.”
