Essien’s representatives talk to AC Milan

Michael Essien’s representatives have spoken to AC Milan about a potential move for the Chelsea midfielder.

They have been keen to talk up the possibility of Essien, 31, joining the San Siro club, while Napoli boss Rafael Benitez has also been made aware of his availability.

Essien’s contract expires at the end of the season but he will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this month if a club comes in for him.

Signed from Lyon in 2005, he was a pivotal player for Chelsea during manager Jose Mourinho’s successful first spell at the club.

But he spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, where he played under Mourinho, and has made only five Premier League appearances for the Blues this term.

A number of French clubs have shown some interest in Essien, who would be eligible to play in the Champions League were he to join Milan.

Turkish media have reported that Galatasary are also keen on the Ghana international.
