Chelsea unsure when injured Cucurella will return

Chelsea remain unsure when Marc Cucurella will return to action.

The left-back went off with a hamstring injury during last week’s 2-2 draw against Leeds.

He was subsequently unavailable for the FA Cup win at Hull and will remain sidelined for Saturday’s game at home to Burnley.

And head coach Liam Rosenior does not yet know when Cucurella will be able to return to the squad.

“I can’t give an exact timeframe on Marc,” Liam Rosenior admitted.

“He suffered a hamstring injury. It’s a real shame because he’s an outstanding player – one of the best left-backs in the world. But we have Jorrel (Hato) and Malo (Gusto) who can cover.”

Chelsea are continuing to monitor the fitness of both Cole Palmer and captain Reece James ahead of this weekend’s game.

The England internationals have been plagued by injury problems and the club are having to manage their workload.

Head coach Rosenior said on Thursday afternoon: “It’s based on day by day – not just those two, but how each player feels. They both trained really well today.”

Meanwhile, Rosenior has backed Liam Delap to make his mark at Chelsea despite a difficult first season at the club for the striker
