Antonio Conte has confirmed that David Luiz is unavailable for Chelsea’s game against Newcastle.

Conte said on Friday afternoon that Luiz, who has missed Chelsea’s last two matches, is having treatment for a knee problem and that it is still unclear how long the player will be unavailable for.

Charly Musonda remains sidelined, while Michy Batshuayi and Kenedy are still rebuilding their fitness following their respective injuries and do not appear to be in contention for places in the squad.

Blues boss Conte said: “Luiz and Musonda are out. Batshuayi and Kenedy have just started to work with us again to find the best physical condition.

“Now he (Luiz) is having treatment on his knee. It’s not simple to understand how much longer this injury will be for. The doctor is doing his best to recover him very soon.”

There has been speculation over the future of Luiz, who was recently dropped by Conte and reportedly believes he is on the way out of Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid have been linked with the Brazil defender.
