Chelsea defender Chalobah out for six weeks
An injury suffered by Trevoh Chalobah is “nowhere near” as serious as Chelsea initially feared, Liam Rosenior has revealed.
The Blues defender was stretchered off during this week’s Champions League game against Paris St-Germain with what looked like a very serious injury.
But head coach Rosenior said on Thursday afternoon that Chalobah is expected to be out for around six weeks.
“Fortunately, it’s nowhere near as serious as we first feared. We’re looking at maybe six weeks,” Rosenior said.
“It’s still serious and it’s never good that Trev’s out, but we’re looking at a period of around six weeks.”
Rosenior added that captain Reece James will be out until after the international break with another hamstring problem, as will goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who has had minor surgery on a groin injury.
“We’re going to look at Reece more after the international break,” Rosenior explained.
“It’s not serious, but there’s something in his hamstring and we’re going to monitor it after the break.
“Filip had a scan and needed a minor operation. It’s a matter of weeks.”
Rosenior also insisted that Levi Colwill will not be rushed back from a long-term knee injury and played down suggestions the defender could be close to a return.
He said: “Levi is hitting all the benchmarks he needs to, but we need to make sure he keeps getting past certain levels. He’s still looking at a good while yet.”
Rosenior also insisted that Enzo Fernandez is “completely committed” to Chelsea despite speculation over the midfielder’s future.
