Batshuayi wants to stay at Chelsea – Conte

Antonio Conte says Michy Batshuayi wants to stay at Chelsea despite being overlooked for a first-team place.

The summer signing from Marseille is still waiting for his first Premier League start.

Blues boss Conte even opted not to give it to him against Bournemouth on Boxing Day, when Diego Costa was suspended.

A number of clubs, including West Ham, have been linked with the 23-year-old Belgian and there have been reports that he is unhappy at Stamford Bridge.

But Conte ruled out sending him on loan after the Bournemouth game – and insists the player is happy with that decision.

“He wants to stay and I am happy for this. He is a young player and is starting his path in football,” Conte said.

“I think it’s very important for him as a footballer to complete this season [at Chelsea]. We are working a lot with him.”
