Frank says Brentford could make signings

Thomas Frank admits that the club’s current injury situation may force Brentford into the transfer market before the window closes on Monday.

Frank is down to his last two fit centre-backs and could only name seven substitutes instead of nine for the 7-2 thrashing of Wycombe.

He said: “If the squad was fully fit, with no injuries, then I would have no concerns about it.

“But we are always aware of players and open to see if there could be a potential player we need to get in.

“I must say we have a lot of injuries. Bryan Mbeumo missed out today and is doubtful for the game with Bristol City on Wednesday.”

Luckily the absentees were not missed as the Bees ran in five goals in the second half after being pegged back before the break.

Ivan Toney, who had not scored in the previous five Championship games, and Tarique Fosu scored two goals apiece, with Fosu following in a Toney shot for his first.

The goal was officially credited to Fosu, but after the game Toney claimed it was his and Frank agreed.

“Ivan thinks he got a hat-trick and we will definitely do what we can to give that hat-trick to Ivan,” Frank said.

“He is the one who got the goal, and should get the goal, and we will look into it.

“There is an appeals process – for me it is a clear goal and we will do what we can to make sure it is a hat-trick.

“Ivan deserves it and that extra goal will mean a lot to him and make him want even more.”

The Bees are now third in the table, two points behind Swansea and six behind Norwich with a game in hand on each of them.

Frank added: “We are in a very good position, no doubt about that. The goal difference means a lot and last year could have made the difference if we had won against Stoke or Barnsley.

“If we need that goal difference, it will be nice that we have it, but I hope it doesn’t go down to that.

“There are six teams that can be in the top two and a lot more who can be in the top six. We can’t relax in any way.

“We are unbeaten in 18 games and can only continue being that if we have the maximum focus on the next game.”
