Frank defends Brentford’s lack of signings

Brentford boss Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank does not believe Brentford’s lack of transfer activity in January cost them automatic promotion.

The Bees narrowly missed out on the top two last season and are now preparing for another attempt at going up via the play-offs.

Injuries to key players have hampered their promotion bid but head coach Frank has no regrets about the decision not to bring in reinforcements other than the loan signing of Winston Reid.

Asked if he felt not adding further to the squad during the transfer window was an error, Frank said: “No. That was a club decision and the good thing with a club decision at this club is that we take the decision together.

“We were open to the potential of adding a player but it didn’t drop for us.

“It needs to be value for money and not just spending – we simply don’t believe in that model.

“I think the way we’ve done it for many years and especially the last two years, being able to compete for the top two shows we do the right thing.”

Meanwhile, Frank has indicated he might make changes for tonight’s match against Rotherham.
