‘No chance’ Chelsea players have downed tools – McFarlane

Interim head coach Calum McFarlane has hit back at suggestions that Chelsea’s squad have “downed tools” for the season following a turbulent few weeks at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are 10th in the table and saw any hope of a top-five finish extinguished after a disappointing defeat by Nottingham Forest – the Blues’ sixth consecutive league loss.

But McFarlane said: “I don’t agree with the narrative that players aren’t performing or have given up.

“We want to win every single game from now until the end of the season. It’s not just extra motivation for the fans—we want to do it for ourselves and for the club.”

Chelsea are expected to be without Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho for Saturday’s game at Liverpool.

It means their attacking options will be limited, but McFarlane said the squad are looking to show their worth.

“The players are young, hungry, and have shown they can play at the top level against the best sides,” he declared.

“This team has massive potential and we are determined to show that at Anfield.”
