QPR boss keen to make signings
Neil Critchley has reiterated that he would like QPR to make signings during this month’s transfer window.
Rangers will add to their squad in the coming weeks and head coach Critchley was asked after Monday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United about the prospect of new arrivals.
He replied: “If we have the opportunity to bring someone in that we think will make a difference to the squad then, yes, I think we’ll get the backing and the support to do that.
“If there’s a player available who we think would improve us then why would we not do that?”
Bringing in a striker is a priority for Critchley, who said he “wouldn’t rule out” signing players from abroad when asked if he might do so.
He discussed potential signings with the Rangers hierarchy prior to taking over, having taken the job with an idea of where he would like to strengthen.
“I knew what their capabilities were and had thought to myself the areas we would need to improve to be better in this division,” Critchley explained.
“We’ve got to be better at both ends of the pitch. If you want to be at the top you’ve got to be a high-scoring team or have one of the meanest defences. We have neither. So we’ve got to improve at both ends.
“Having said that, I’ve been impressed with the spirit of the team and how humble they are.
“As a coach you can only ask the players to try and carry out the plan that you put in place for them.
“They try and do that to the best of their ability. Do they always get it right? No. But I don’t always get it right either. But we’re learning and improving.”
There is also bound to be speculation over the future of Ilias Chair, who is likely to be linked with top-flight clubs.
Asked if he could guarantee Chair will stay at QPR, Critchley replied: “No. I can never guarantee that. I’d be foolish to do that.
“Do we want him here? Yes of course we do. Do we love having him here? Yes.
“I’ve been nothing but impressed with him as a player and as a person. He’s really humble and down to earth and he loves football.
“I hope he remains a QPR player, but I can’t guarantee that – obviously not.”
