Holloway: I can chop and change

Ian Holloway believes QPR rescuing a draw at Barnsley vindicated changes he made.

The Rangers boss argued after Saturday’s draw at home to Burton that he made positive changes in order to try to win the game.

And he felt the same after Luke Freeman’s late goal earned a point at Oakwell.

Having given Bright Osayi-Samuel his first start and deployed Jamie Mackie as a lone striker, he replaced the young winger with Conor Washington at half-time and changed system again with Matt Smith later also being introduced as well as Kazenga LuaLua.

“We didn’t play that well in the first half – we didn’t pass it and didn’t move it,” Holloway said.

“But with the squad that we’ve put together that we’re working on and building, I can always switch it and change it – and what pleases me is that they can understand different formations.

“It puts other people on the back foot. We went from not moving the ball quick enough to dominating the second half.”

He added: “Our fans have had to see some woeful attempts over the years, including last year under my management, where we give a goal away and go to pieces. I don’t see that from my team now and I’m really pleased about that.

“What helps me is the squad I’ve got, because I can chop and change. You have to be adaptable at this level.”

Holloway also praised Steven Caulker following the defender’s return to the side.
