QPR boss Ian Holloway believes referees need additional power to stop matches when players get injured.

Officials are currently advised to bring play to a halt in the event of a head injury.

But Holloway said: “It shouldn’t just be for head injuries. We need to protect our players. It’s very simple.

“When someone’s injured on the field of play the referee should have the power to say ‘Please put the ball out and then we’ll give it back to you’.

“How simple is it? Us to tell Uefa, Fifa to tell the EFL to say ‘You have the power now, referee, to say that the ball must be put out’. Why can’t we do the simple things?”
