Harry: Liverpool missed out on a bargain

QPR boss Harry Redknapp says Liverpool missed out on a bargain when they recently backed out of a deal to sign Loic Remy.

France forward Remy, 27, was signed from Marseille for just over £8m in January last year on the understanding he would be allowed to move for the same fee if a top-four club came in for him.

He is keen to join Arsenal but after the Gunners declined to make a firm offer, Liverpool tabled a bid only for the transfer to then collapse.

“Obviously he has a buy-out clause, but when you look at the prices of strikers it’s incredible – he should be a £20m striker in comparison to other strikers who are getting sold for £11m and £12m,” said Redknapp.

“To have lost him for the amount we were going to would have been too cheap and to have him back here is fantastic for us.

“When I looked at what [transfer fee] he was going to go to Liverpool for, it was a fantastic buy for Liverpool for that money. Their loss is our gain.”

Meanwhile, QPR have ended their interest in Troy Deeney after Watford demanded £10m for the striker.
