Gareth Southgate hailed Ruben Loftus-Cheek after the Chelsea youngster’s hugely impressive England debut.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, had an excellent game in the 0-0 draw with Germany at Wembley.
And England boss Southgate, who previously worked with Loftus-Cheek at Under-21 level, said he was not surprised by the impact he made.
“He did everything I know he can do,” Southgate said.
“It took him 10 minutes to realise ‘I’m OK here, I can play’. I think he needs that confidence, because he’s capable of anything.
“He’s been a top performer in our junior teams, as have some of the others, and they’ve shown that they can step up.
“He’s got the physical attributes and he can handle the ball. I think he’ll gain huge confidence from it. I’m really pleased with him.”
Another Chelsea youngster, Tammy Abraham, also made his England debut, playing an hour before being substituted.
