Macleod signs new Brentford contract

Midfielder Lewis Macleod has added an extra year to his contract at Brentford, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2019.

The 22-year-old is currently recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in the win over QPR in October, which is expected to rule him out for the rest of the campaign.

He joined the Bees from Glasgow Rangers for an undisclosed fee in January 2015 but a hamstring problem and further injuries meant he did not make his debut until February of this year.

Macleod did however feature in 13 of the Bees’ first 15 Championship games this season, contributing five assists, before his knee injury.

Boss Dean Smith told the club’s website: “He has had a really unfortunate time with injuries since he has joined Brentford and prior to his injury against QPR he was beginning to show the undoubted potential he possesses.

“He has been missed by us since getting injured but we are pleased with his recovery to date.

“It is refreshing for me to see our club looking after its players after unfortunate injuries and having faith in their recovery.”

Macleod has represented Scotland at every age group, from Under-16 to Under-21, and was called up to the full international squad for matches against Republic of Ireland and England just before his move to Brentford.
