Chelsea v Tottenham: five past meetings

Chelsea face rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in a crucial match in the battle for a Champions League spot.

Spurs head into the Easter game in fourth – one place above Antonio Conte’s side – but a win for the Blues would narrow the gap to just two points.

History is on Chelsea’s side – Spurs have not won at the Bridge since 1990. And previous meetings between the two sides suggest Sunday’s game will be a cracker. Here’s a look back at five of those past encounters.

Chelsea 2 Tottenham 1, November 26 2016 – Premier League

The same fixture last season saw Chelsea win 2-1 with goals from Pedro and Victor Moses after Christian Eriksen fired the visitors into the lead with 11 minutes on the clock.

Tottenham 2 Chelsea 0, January 4 2017 – Premier League

The return game last season at White Hart Lane saw Spurs win 2-0 with a brace from Dele Alli. But it was the Blues who eventually won the title, seven points ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s side in second.

Chelsea 4 Tottenham 2, April 22 2017 – FA Cup semi-final

The two sides met in the semi-final of the FA Cup last April, Chelsea twice leading in the first half through Willian, only to be pegged back with goals from Harry Kane and Alli. Two late goals from Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic sealed the victory for Conte’s side but Chelsea went on to lose the final to Arsenal.

Chelsea 3 Tottenham 0, December 3 2014 – Premier League

Kane is likely to miss Sunday’s game and he will hope his side avoids a repeat of the score when he made his first start against Chelsea in 2014. The Blues raced into a two-goal lead inside 22 minutes through Hazard and Didier Drogba before Loic Remy added a third in the second half to seal maximum points.

Tottenham 4 Chelsea 4, March 19 2008 – Premier League

The highest scoring draw between the two sides took place a decade ago. Drogba gave Chelsea an early lead only for Jonathan Woodgate to equalise. Michael Essien and Joe Cole then put the away side in charge but Dimitar Berbatov and Tom Huddlestone levelled things up again with 15 minutes remaining. Cole’s second looked to have earned Chelsea the win but Robbie Keane netted late on to seal a point.
