Wilkins: United fans would embrace Lampard if he moved to Old Trafford
Ray Wilkins has told BBC Radio Manchester he believes Frank Lampard would be accepted by fans and make a major impact were he to join Manchester United.
Lampard and Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole, whose contracts expire this summer, have both been linked with moves to Old Trafford.
And Wilkins, who joined United from the Blues in 1979, is convinced Lampard would be a success were he to make the switch.
Wilkins said: “He’ll win them [United fans] over because of his footballing ability.
“If you look at Old Trafford, if anything they lack goals from the middle of the pitch.
“They’ve got goals coming from everywhere else – full-back, centre-half – but from the middle they are not scoring as regularly as when Paul Scholes was a tad younger.
“Frank will guarantee you goals because he has that knack of arriving at the right situation and the right time to put the ball in the back of the net, and he finishes like a forward.
“Frank has been an unbelievable servant to Chelsea and I honestly felt they would have given him maybe a year or two more.
“They have obviously decided to take a different look at the way things are going at Stamford Bridge and alter their philosophy.”

United don’t need more goal scorers–they need players in the middle of the park that control the tempo…dictate the flow…make the pin point passes…box to box players….can defend….we Don’t need Lampard–Please say that this is some cruel hoax……

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, say it ‘aint’ so. United don’t need Lampard–he’s washed up.. Ok, so yes he scores the odd goal (mostly tap ins and penalties), but he’s finished,, he’s finished..Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…Listen up, Lampard was a very good English player, but he was NEVER world class…Xavi is world class…Iniesta is world class.. Pirlo is world class…Sneider is world class…Toure is world class…Silva is world class…Scholes was world class….Bobby Charlton was world class…Lampard and Gerrard where top English players–that’s it, no more!!
United go out and buy a WORLD CLASS mid field player…Let Lamps head to the USA
