Townsend is called up
Andros Townsend has been named in the England squad for the Under-21 European Championship.
The winger, on loan at QPR from Tottenham, has impressed since arriving at Loftus Road in January.
He has been relegated Rangers’ stand-out performer in a number of their matches and has been tipped to establish himself as a Premier League player by Harry Redknapp.
R’s boss Redknapp, who also managed Townsend, 21, at Spurs, said: “He’s proved to himself now that he can play at that level.
“He’s a great lad and I think he has got a bright future ahead of him. He’s done fantastically and will go back to Tottenham a better player.”
Townsend will link up with Stuart Pearce’s squad on 27 May for a training camp in Antalya, Turkey.
The finals start on 5 June. England will face Italy and then Norway and hosts Israel.
