The Most and Least Popular Wagers

The sports and the betting industry have gone side-by-side for many years now. Sports fans are no strangers to placing a bet or two to test their knowledge and have a bit of fun. In terms of the most popular sports to bet on, there are plenty.

People love to place bets on football, basketball, horse racing, American football, tennis, baseball, greyhound races, etc. In recent times, technology even allowed punters to place bets at any time and any place. They can do that thanks to online sportsbooks.

These sites operate 24/7 and provide bettors with tons of advantages such as great security, a plethora of accepted payment methods, numerous bonuses and promotions, easy accessibility, etc.

All it takes for punters to receive these bonuses is to register at sportsbooks such as Betfair. The registration process won’t take more than a minute and after you make your first deposit, you will be able to claim a Betfair bonus.

Then, you will be able to use it on the eligible sports and place your bets. There are plenty of bet types for every category and that is what we are going to talk about here. We will be taking a look at the most and least popular types of wagers. Without any further ado, let’s start diving into the details.

X Team to Win

In a majority of sports, there are three possible outcomes: the home side to win, the away side to win, or a draw. Sports games that are in a knockout stage have just two outcomes – home or away side to win. With that being said, the most popular wage is “home/away team to win.”

Many punters consider this option the safest bet. They just look at the recent form of the two teams, compare their H2H results and then, decide which team has the better odds of winning. Of course, one additional factor that plays a huge role is which team is playing at home.

Every sports expert states that the fans are an extra player for each team. So, it is natural that the home team will have the advantage in every game.

Over/Under

Moving on, if you are unsure as to whether your preferred team has what it takes to win, you can always bet on the number of goals/points. You can do that by placing an over/under bet. As the name of the bet itself suggests, over means that the total number of goals/points at the game will be over a certain number.

On the flip side of the coin, the under bet means that the total number of goals/points will be under a certain number. Thanks to the fact that this is a neutral bet in which both teams pay their contributions, numerous punters are more than happy to place these bets.

To make things even more interesting, online sportsbooks are known for providing punters with fantastic odds for this bet type and that is why it is commonly used.

Double Chance

Now that we’ve listed 2 of the most popular wagers, it is time to transfer to the least popular wagers, starting with a double chance. Double chance wagers mean that you are betting on 2 possible outcomes.

For example, if Chelsea and Manchester United are playing a football match, a double chance is a bet on Chelsea to win and Chelsea to score more than 2 goals. Other double chance options are X team to win and over 2.5 goals, draw and under 2.5 goals, etc.

Of course, it is hard enough to bet on one outcome of a game and double chance bets take things up a notch. Yes, the odds of this wager are always fantastic, but it is extremely hard to correctly predict two types of bets and hence, bettors are not too fond of this option.

First Corner/ Throw-In/ Yellow Card

Finally, we have by far the least popular types of wagers. There are several of these and we decided to put them all in the same group. They concern a certain outcome that can happen in a game. Since we mentioned Chelsea and Manchester United, we’ll use that game for one additional example.

The least popular bet types in our group are outcomes such as the first corner, first yellow card, throw-in, etc. Each game, whether that is football, basketball or any other sport, is packed with dynamics and predicting these outcomes is near impossible. That is why these bet types are extremely rarely used.
