The best attacking duos in Premier League history

Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday 13 September, and neither squad contains a partnership close to the top of this list. Anyone studying the Man United vs Man City betting odds will not find a pairing in either team within 20 goal combinations of the record. The ranking below counts goal combinations, meaning the number of times two players have directly set each other up in the Premier League.

Kane and Son: 47

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min hold the record with 47, achieved at Tottenham between 2016 and 2023 and ratified by Guinness World Records. They set each other up 14 times in 2020/21, the single-season record for a duo. 

They took top spot on 26 February 2022, when Kane found Son in a 4-0 win over Leeds United. Kane left for Bayern Munich in 2023, and Tottenham confirmed Son’s permanent transfer to LAFC on 6 August 2025 in a £20m MLS record deal, so the 47 figure is final.

Drogba and Lampard: 36

Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard combined 36 times at Chelsea, and it stood as the outright record until 2022 when Kane and Son overtook it. Lampard set up Drogba on 24 occasions, while Drogba returned the favour 12 times, and the understanding carried into the cups, where Lampard supplied Drogba’s winning goals in both the 2007 and 2012 FA Cup finals.

Aguero and Silva, Henry and Pires: 29

Sergio Aguero and David Silva at Manchester City sit level with Thierry Henry and Robert Pires at Arsenal on 29 apiece. Aguero sits fifth on the Premier League’s all-time scoring list, and 21 of those goals arrived courtesy of David Silva, who is eighth on the all-time assists chart. The pair won 11 major honours together at Manchester City, four of them league titles, but never the Champions League, ending when Silva joined Real Sociedad in August 2020. 

Arsenal’s was less lopsided, as Thierry Henry converted 17 of the 29 with Robert Pires supplying the rest, and six seasons together brought five trophies.

Anderton and Sheringham: 27

Darren Anderton and Teddy Sheringham combined 27 times at Tottenham, the highest entry from the 1990s and the only pre-2000 pairing left in the top five. Sheringham scored 20 of the goals, and their peak came in 1994/95, when Anderton laid on six Sheringham goals in the first half of the season alone, three of them from the same near-post corner routine, against Wimbledon, Newcastle and Chelsea.

Salah and Firmino: 25

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino combined 25 times at Liverpool, sixth overall. Salah’s individual output has kept climbing regardless of who plays alongside him. He equalled the single-season record for combined goals and assists with 47 in 2024/25, matching Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer despite a 38-game season rather than a 42-game one. He also passed Wayne Rooney for the most goal involvements for a single club, reaching 277 for Liverpool through 188 goals and 89 assists.

Haaland and De Bruyne: the partnership that ran out of time

Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were the only active pairing with a realistic route into the top five. De Bruyne assisted Haaland for 19 Premier League goals, comfortably the most productive live partnership in the division, with Salah and Darwin Nunez next on 10. 

Against Luton, Haaland scored five and De Bruyne assisted four, the first time two players produced eight goal contributions in a single Premier League match. De Bruyne confirmed his City exit in April 2025 and left that summer, closing the partnership roughly 20 short. Haaland won the 2025/26 Golden Boot with 27 goals, but Arsenal took the title, their fourth, and head the Premier League winner odds.

What it would now take

The 2026/27 season began on 22 August 2026, and every duo above 25 is a closed historical record. Matching 47 requires around six seasons of 14-combination form from two players who stay at the same club. Salah and Alexander Isak at Liverpool are the only current pairing with a plausible starting point.
