QPR may miss out on target

QPR boss Mark Hughes’ hopes of signing Chris Samba in the summer could be about to disappear.

Rangers failed with two bids for the centre-back during the January transfer window and were expected to try again at the end of the season.

Hughes was keen to sign Samba.

But several of today’s newspapers include a story that Samba, who played under Hughes at Rovers, may be sold to Anzhi Makhachkala before the Russian transfer deadline.

A number of papers also follow up Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas’ comment that club owner Roman Abramovich asked him about his team selection after the midweek defeat against Napoli.

Villas-Boas left Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Michael Essien out of his starting line-up for the game.

The Sun cover the story with the headline ‘Why did you drop them?’

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph suggest Jose Mourinho may return to Chelsea – if he apologises to Abramovich for wringing £18m compensation out of him when he left Stamford Bridge in 2007.

And The Daily Mail say Villas-Boas wants to offer Salomon Kalou a new £80,000-per-week contract.

Kalou’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he is said to want assurances that he is likely to get regular first-team football.
