QPR boss Hughes ‘is on Aston Villa’s shortlist’

Mark Hughes is on Aston Villa’s shortlist as they search for a new manager, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Villa are expected to make an official approach for Norwich’s Paul Lambert following the Midlands club’s sacking of Alex McLeish.

Hughes has been linked with Villa.

But it is claimed that QPR boss Hughes is also a possible contender. The Welshman was linked with Villa after leaving Fulham last summer.

Inevitably, there is more speculation about Rangers’ response to Joey Barton’s incredible outburst against Manchester City.

The Telegraph say Hughes wants Barton out of Loftus Road, while The Independent suggest Rangers would like to sack him but may find it too expensive.

The Daily Mail also say Hughes is keen to get rid of Barton and the Daily Star declare that Rangers are determined to boot him out even though it could cost them £11m.

Meanwhile, the Star say Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is losing his battle to recover from a hamstring injury in time for this weekend’s Champions League final.
