Lambert eyes new signings after first Wolves win

Paul Lambert is hopeful Wolves have turned the corner following their victory at QPR but believes they need to improve their squad when the transfer window reopens in January.

Wolves’ 2-1 triumph at Loftus Road was their first win in 10 matches – and their first since Lambert took over as manager.

“I still think we need a bit of help come January,” Lambert said.

“We need a few in and we also need to get rid of a few – the squad is far too big.

“The club has had a really hard start, losing a manager, and you’ve got to come in and try to give it a better feeling. It’s a decent start.”

Dave Edwards opened the scoring on the hour mark against 10-man Rangers, who had James Perch sent off in the first half.

Helder Costa doubled their lead and R’s keeper Alex Smithies produced several saves to prevent a Wolves third before Joel Lynch pulled a goal back in the 90th minute.

Lambert said: “I’ll take 2-1 but if I’m being critical we should have won by more. We had three one-on-ones. It could have been five.

“It’s great for the supporters. It’s been hard for them and I’m glad they’ll go back home with a smile on their face.”
