McKenzie suffers early Olympic exit

Ashley McKenzie suffered an early exit from the Olympics, losing to Japan’s Hiroaki Hiraoka in the mens’ judo 60kg extra-lightweight competition.

McKenzie, from Queen’s Park, was hopeful of causing an upset and started brightly in his first Olympic contest.

But the number two seed and two-time World Championship silver medallist soon took control.

He pinned McKenzie to achieve an ippon score and end the bout with 50 seconds remaining.
