A superb strike from Manuel Lanzini gave West Ham the lead at Stamford Bridge in the 17th minute.

The Argentine picked up a loose ball 20 yards and curled a brilliant right-footed shot beyond Blues keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Earlier, Chelsea had the first chance when Loic Remy – in for the suspended Diego Costa – was played in by Cesc Fabregas but he blasted a shot at the legs of Adrian.

Shortly after the goal, Branislav Ivanovic headed well wide but West Ham continued to set the pace.

John Terry was handed his first Chelsea start in five weeks as one of three changes to the line-up that lost at Everton last week.

As well as Remy, Oscar was also brought in with Nemanja Matic and Pedro dropping out.
