Kane’s winner gives Spurs crucial victory at Palace

Harry Kane’s late header secured a crucial win that boosted Tottenham’s chances of securing a top-four finish. 

The striker had missed two glorious chances as the game looked destined for a goalless draw, but he nodded in Christian Erkisen’s last-minute corner for his 24th Premier League goal.

Wayne Hennessey had saved an early effort from eight yards before Kane missed past the post with the whole goal at his mercy from six yards in the second half.

But Spurs dominated the game against the relegation-threatened Eagles and sealed a first away victory in four attempts with Chelsea to play Manchester United later on Sunday.

Tottenham had a legitimate shout for a penalty waved away early on when Ben Davies was felled in the box by the legs of keeper Hennessey, who made a number of good saves in the game.

Hennessey denied Kane with his knee after Patrick van Aanholt’s skewed clearance fell to the England striker 10 minutes in.

Palace’s first-half chances were limited to headers in the box and defender James Tomkins tested Hugo Lloris with once as the hosts did well to stop service into Kane and Dele Alli.

Kane’s second miss was the more surprising of the two, taking Eriksen’s flick first-time but sending it wide while completely unmarked from point-blank range on 55 minutes.

But after the lively Serge Aurier also missed an open goal at the back post and another good save from Hennessey denied Davies, Kane popped up with the winner at the death.
