Half-time: Ipswich 0 QPR 1

Junior Hoilett’s header seconds before half-time gave QPR the lead in an otherwise uninspiring game.

The Rangers winger nodded in Leroy Fer’s fantastic cross in a rare moment of quality at Portman Road.

A couple of minutes earlier, QPR had had a let-off when Luke Chambers headed wide of the post from Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ corner.

But they were the only two serious chances, preceded by a fairly flat 44 minutes not helped by a bobbly pitch.

Ipswich began positively but all they had to show for it was Daryl Murphy’s early effort which flew wide.

QPR held firm and Sebastian Polter, who continued up front for Rangers in the continued absence of Charlie Austin, had a penalty appeal turned down after a challenge by Christophe Berra.

Ale Faurlin then whipped in a free-kick which Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken got across to gather, QPR’s only chance until Hoilett’s goal.

Both teams were unchanged, with Austin failing to shake off the hamstring complaint which ruled him out of the draw at Bristol City last weekend.
