Danny Graham’s goal meant Fulham trailed at the interval at Craven Cottage.
Graham pounced on the loose ball and acrobatically fired into the far corner after David Stockdale had kept out Nathan Dyer’s shot.
Goalkeeper Stockdale was given a starting place along with Matthew Briggs, Giorgos Karagounis, Kerim Frei and Bryan Ruiz.
Dimitar Berbatov missed an early chance for Fulham, shooting over following a corner from Ruiz, who is back in the side after recovering from a hamstring injury.
After Graham’s 19th-minute opener, Frei sent an effort just wide before Ruiz drove a free-kick over the bar and then brought a fine save from Gerhard Tremmel with a shot from the edge of the area.
