Half-time: Brentford 0 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Brentford survived until half-time despite Lucas Joao missing an open goal for Sheffield Wednesday and both Nico Yennaris and Harlee Dean clearing further chances off the line.

Attacker Joao had two goes at finding the net from just a couple of yards out, after superb build-up play from the visitors, but he astonished the whole ground by skewing his effort over the bar.

Yennaris halted Tom Lees’ thumping header and Dean blocked Steven Fletcher’s low shot from inside the box, while Bees keeper Daniel Bentley made two excellent saves to deny Kieran Lee and then Joao’s header at the far post.

Unchanged Brentford went closest when Scott Hogan fired against a Wednesday defender after being picked out at the back peg by Ryan Woods.
