Groves to fight in world title eliminator

George Groves will face European champion Christopher Rebrasse at Wembley Arena on 20 September in a final eliminator for the WBC super-middleweight title.

Hammersmith’s Groves, 26, wanted to make a swift return to the ring following his knockout defeat against Carl Foch in a rematch at Wembley Stadium in May.

He is hoping to secure a third world title shot, having twice been beaten by WBA and IBF champion Froch.

Beating Frenchman Rebrasse, 32, would set up a challenge for the World Boxing Council belt currently held by Sakio Bika.

“It’s great to be back at Wembley and back to world-class boxing,” Groves said.

“Win this fight and I’m back in the picture. I can’t wait to be world champion – it will happen in the near future.”
