Froch not keen on Groves fight – Booth

Adam Booth says he does not believe Carl Froch is keen on a fight with George Groves.

Hammersmith’s unbeaten super-middleweight is hoping to secure a world title shot this year and is confident he would be a match for Froch.

But Booth, Groves trainer and manager, insists a showdown with Nottingham’s IBF champion is unlikely to happen for the foreseeable future.

“Carl doesn’t want to fight George,” Booth told West London Sport.

“George needs to concentrate on the fighters he’s going to be getting in the ring with.

“If the Froch fight happens further down the line then great, but it’s not in our plans at the moment.

“We won’t be upset if it doesn’t happen. George’s career is about so much more than Carl Froch.”

Commonwealth champion Groves, 24, is due to fight at the O2 Arena on 25 May as chief support to the eagerly-awaited rematch between Froch and Mikkel Kessler.

Groves disposed of his last opponent, Dario Balmaceda, with a third-round knockout earlier this month and Booth is pleased with his progress.

He said: “I’m happy in that I’m seeing things in training and when George fights. What he needs to do now is produce those things consistently in fights.

“He got rid of the guy [Balmaceda] cleanly and did what I felt he should have done against Glen Johnson in the previous fight.

“In some ways the Johnson fight was an opportunity missed. I feel George is now back on track and showing the kind of development he was prior to that fight.”
