Redknapp: Chelsea fans should get refunds

Chelsea’s players should reimburse supporters who travelled to watch their 3-0 defeat away against Newcastle on the final day of the Premier League season, according to Jamie Redknapp.

The Blues still had a slim chance of sneaking into the final Champions League qualification place, which would have been theirs if they won and Liverpool lost to Brighton.

But Antonio Conte’s side were easily beaten at St James’s Park, and although Luverpool’s 4-0 thrashing of the Seagulls meant Chelsea defeat was irrelevant, the performance was dismal.

“Newcastle were brilliant,” former England midfielder Redknapp, speaking on Sky Sports, said. “They deserved it all over the park.

“I feel sorry for the Chelsea fans that have come here. They should refund the fans, because the fans don’t deserve the performance the players put on. It was really, really bad.

“Chelsea were so poor. It was an abject performance as you will see. Newcastle wanted it more.”

Redknapp was also very critical of Tiemoue Bakayoko, who was one of a number of players who were way below their best.

“Bakayoko didn’t break sweat,” Redknapp added.

“I felt sorry for N’Golo Kante he had no support whatsoever in the midfield.”
