Injured Sterling out of England squad

Raheem Sterling has withdrawn from the England squad because of injury.

The Manchester City forward, from Harlesden, was expected to feature in the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Sterling, 21, has been replaced in the squad by Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.

No details have yet been given on Sterling’s injury.

He has been in good form for City this season and was named the Premier League’s player of the month for August.
