Ian Holloway believes QPR’s lack of firepower will prevent them from challenging for promotion – and he thinks Brentford will go down.

Holloway, who spent a total of 10 years at Rangers as a player and manager, has backed current boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but does not believe the Dutchman’s squad is strong enough.

In his Championship preview for Sky Sports, Holloway predicted QPR would finish 11th this season.

He said: “I’m not entirely sure about the QPR squad yet.

“Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is the right man for the job but they haven’t replaced Charlie Austin.

“It’s OK to play in a certain style but you need to have a striker like Jimmy was to bang in the goals.”

And Holloway fears Brentford are in for an even tougher season, predicting they will finish 22nd and be relegated.

Holloway, whose playing career also included a spell with the Bees, said: “Brentford are regressing. Mark Warburton got them punching above their weight.

“They still haven’t replaced Andre Gray and Alan Judge will be missing for the start of the season. They could be in trouble.”

Holloway also predicts another difficult season for Fulham, who he tips to finish 17th.

“Fulham’s problem is that they’ve got a lot of overpaid experience and too many youth players,” he said.

“They could have another tough season, especially without the goals of Moussa Dembele and potentially Ross McCormack.”
