Transfer gossip: Guardian say Hammers want Mawson

Some of the transfer speculation in Friday’s newspapers….

West Ham want to sign Alfie Mawson, according to The Guardian.

Mawson, from Hillingdon, impressed for England Under-21s at the European Championships during the summer and has since been linked with potential moves away from Swansea City.

The Guardian say West Ham want the former Brentford defender and are likely to offer around £20m, which is apparently much less than Swansea’s valuation.

Meanwhile, there continues to be speculation over the future of Thibaut Courtois.

The Daily Telegraph now reckon Chelsea are increasingly confident the goalkeeper will sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Courtois, whose current deal expires in 2019, has been linked with Real Madrid.

The Telegraph say Chelsea have offered to make him the highest-paid keeper in the world and that the Blues have taken encouragement from reports Real are interested in Athletico Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Courtois reportedly earns around £100,000 a week and, according to the Telegraph, Chelsea are ready to pay him more than double that in order to keep the Belgian.

The Telegraph also say Chelsea have put interest in Jack Butland on hold. The Stoke and England keeper has been touted as a potential replacement for Courtois at the Bridge.
