Ferdinand still one of the best – and quickest – defenders, says Redknapp
Harry Redknapp insists Rio Ferdinand remains one of the best central defenders in the country and has more than enough pace to play at the top level.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently suggested that the 34-year-old, who played under Redknapp at West Ham, has lost a yard of pace.
“Rio losing a yard probably still makes him as quick as any centre-half in the country,” said the QPR manager.
“He was lightning quick, so if Alex thinks he’s lost a yard that’ll just bring him closer to the next-quickest centre-half – he’s that quick.
“I just think he’s a fantastic player. He’s been a top player since he was 17 and he’s been a great player for United. He’s still top quality.”
Meanwhile, Redknapp is hopeful Loic Remy will feature against United in Saturday’s match at Loftus Road.
