Difficult start following return to the Premier League for Fulham

There is no doubt it was always going to be a difficult return for Fulham in the Premier League this season. They last contested a Premier league season just two years ago, when finishing down in 19th position. That saw them win just seven matches, draw five and lose 26, which ultimately meant they picked up just 26 points and were duly relegated. This was also following great investment into the club, so last season was of great importance for them to return to the top flight.

Fulham produced a solid season in the Championship, as they finished in fourth and in the all-important play-off places. This saw them reach the finals and take on Brentford, in a match to return to the top flight. Fulham started as the underdogs, with the game moving to extra-time, following a 0-0 draw. However, they scored twice in extra-time, as they won 2-1 and bounced straight back into the Premier league.

Prior to the start of the season, fans were supporting them in the Rhode Island sports betting markets to not only stay in the Premier league but also have a positive season. However, it appears this could be poorly placed, following the disappointing start to the campaign.

There is no doubt that they were expecting a tough season ahead and kickstarted with a home fixture against Arsenal. It proved to be a very one-sided affair, with Arsenal winning 3-0 and Fulham getting another clear message of the task at hand back in the Premier league. Next up for Fulham was a match against last season’s Championship winners Leeds. This turned out to be a memorable match, with seven goals scored between the two sides. Despite an even match, Leeds came away with the 4-3 victory but there were many positives to take from the match for Fulham.

Next up for Fulham was a home fixture against Aston Villa. Unfortunately, it resulted in another defeat for the side, with Villa dominating and winning the match 3-0. That included two early goals, as Fulham continued the poor start to the current Premier League. On the other hand, this was yet another victory for Villa, who continue to battle at the top of the table.

Wolves were next for Fulham, which was expected to be a very difficult fixture, following the impressive campaign that Wolves produced last season. It proved to be a competitive affair, with both sides struggling to create meaningful chances. Neto finally scored for the home side in the early period of the second half, which meant yet another loss for Fulham.

It now means Fulham are already fighting against relegation and are short priced favourites to face the drop. It is going to be a very season ahead for Fulham, if they are to stay in the Premier League.
