China waits for Anelka

Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua expect to complete the signing of Nicolas Anelka in the coming days.

The deal would see the Chelsea striker net a reported £6m-a-year – making him the most expensive player in the history of Chinese football.

A Shenhua spokesman told China Daily: “This is not a rumour, you don’t need to wait too long. We will make an announcement as soon as the club signs a contract.”

Striker Anelka has attracted serious interest from several clubs.

Anelka, who was recently transfer-listed at Stamford Bridge, could be managed by Jean Tigana.

The former Fulham boss was in Shanghai recently to hold talks with the club and is tipped to take over.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea assistant boss Ray Wilkins believes Anelka is still good enough to play for a leading Premier League side.

Wilkins told talkSPORT: “He can still play for a top-four club. He still has so much more to offer. He’s top quality.”
