Chelsea in prime position for top-four finish as return nears

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard

Football is now moving ever nearer to a return, following the extended break due to the coronavirus pandemic. This has meant a lockdown across the country, with people being told to stay in their homes. It has also been a similar scenario across many areas of the world, with Europe badly affected. Germany appeared to be one of the best in tackling the pandemic and the Bundesliga has now been the first major league to return. The Spanish La Liga has also been given the green light for a return, with the players returning to full training.

The Premier league are also now looking for when they can return and have stated that they are looking to finish their season. This in comparison to French football that has cancelled their season and awarded PSG with the title. The Premier league are now looking for teams to return to training in the near future, which is being named ‘Project Restart’. This covers pitches being disinfected, players restricted to groups of just five and tackling to be banned.

It all now sets up for a return of Premier league football in the near future, which will be positive news for UEFA, who have stated they want all leagues to finish their season if possible. Or this could even result in their European places coming under threat for next season.

Liverpool will be happy with the news and are all but set to land their first Premier league title since its inauguration and have continued to be supported to do so, with the bethard promo code being used. This is due to the fact that they are 25 points clear of the second placed side in defending champions Manchester City. However, the race for the top four and the Champions league places still remains open, but Chelsea are in a prime position to qualify.

Chelsea are currently in fourth position, following picking up 48 points from their 29 matches played. This includes them winning 14 matches, drawing six and losing nine. They are currently five points behind Leicester City in third, with the latter having an incredible season to date. Chelsea are also nine points behind Manchester City, so it would appear a third placed finish would be the best they could achieve this year, which would be seen as an achievement.

Chelsea have a three point lead over the fifth placed side Manchester United, who have been a resurgent force in their recent games. It sets up for a fascinating end to the campaign, if and when it returns, but Chelsea will be hopeful they can finish strong and guarantee Champions league football for next year.
