Joey Barton ‘could be suspended for three months’

Joey Barton’s conduct against Manchester City is inevitably among today’s headlines.

There is speculation about how long the QPR captain will be banned for after he was red-carded for lashing out at Carlos Tevez, then kicked Sergio Aguero and appeared to aim a headbutt at Vincent Kompany before tangling with City substitute Mario Balotelli.

The Guardian say Barton is facing a nine-game suspension and former referee Graham Poll, writing in the Daily Mail, suggests he will be banned for at least 10 matches.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror say Barton could be unavailable for as long as three months if the Football Association punish comments he made on Twitter following his outburst.
