Arsenal ‘plan swoop’ for forward

Arsenal are planning a shock summer swoop for Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge, according to the Daily Mail.

The paper say sources close to Sturridge claim he is unhappy playing on the wing rather than through the middle and that he wants an improved contract, which Chelsea are reluctant to give him.

AVB appears to be under pressure.

The Mail also say under-pressure Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has been ordered to improve results after holding talks with club owner Roman Abramovich for the second time in four days.

And Abramovich is said to have also called in director of football Michael Emenalo to explain the Blues’ poor results.

The Daily Mirror suggest John Terry’s determination to play in the recent derby against QPR may have aggravated the Chelsea captain’s knee problem.

The Daily Express report Adel Taarabt’s apparent new start under manager Mark Hughes at QPR, as do The Sun.

And the Mail say Fulham face a stand-off with Andrew Johnson over the striker’s proposed new contract.

Johnson, 30, will be a free agent in the summer but has only been offered a two-year contract, said to be worth less than his current £33,000-a-week deal.

The Sun report that would involve a £5,000-a-week pay cut for the player.
