Rio 2016 round-up: Bibby’s try sends GB into rugby semi

Putney’s Dan Bibby scored a dramatic extra-time try to send Great Britain into the semi-finals of the rugby sevens in Rio.

Earlier on Wednesday, Team GB had finished top of their group following a 21-19 win over New Zealand.

The quarter-final with Argentina was an altogether cagier affair, and ended scoreless after the Argentinians missed what would have been a match-winning penalty in stoppage time.

In the golden score extra-time, Great Britain struck the inside of the post with a penalty but that inadvertently led to a scrum deep in Argentina territory, from which Bibby scored.

They will now face South Africa in Thursday’s semi-final.
