Injury-hit Harlequins bring in short-term cover

Harlequins have signed props Joe Jones and Alessandro Heaney on short-term deals.

Welshman Jones (pictured) has arrived from Champ side Doncaster Knights and has been given a contract until the end of the season. The 30-year-old’s previous clubs include Sale and French outfit Perpignan.

Irishman Heaney, 23, was previously at Cornish Pirates and played in the United States for RFC Los Angeles. He will be with Quins until returning to the States next month to join Anthem Rugby Charlotte.

Meanwhile, tighthead prop Luke Yendle has been recalled by Dragons RFC from his loan spell.

Quins have brought in Jones and Heaney as cover after Ethan Clarke and Jamie Miller suffered injuries in last Friday’s match against Northampton Saints.

Senior coach Jason Gilmore said: “With injuries to Harry Williams, Ethan Clarke and Jamie Miller in the past week, and Luke Yendle returning to the Dragons, we’ve had to add further depth to our front row for the Prem Cup campaign and beyond.

“We’re in a tough spot in two specialist positions, which we’re having to navigate on the move.

“Joe and Alessandro have come into the building this week and had to settle in quickly, but they are excited for the opportunity to contribute to the shirt.”
