Harlequins lock Green leaves to join Cardiff

Harlequins have announced the departure of lock Jonny Green, who has left to join Cardiff Rugby with immediate effect.

The 22-year-old, who made 30 appearances for Quins, had been at the club since he was 15 and came through their age-grade system.

He scored a try on his debut in the Premiership Rugby Cup in the 2022/23 season, had loan spells at London Scottish and Chinnor, and signed a contract extension last December.

“Obviously, I’ve been at the Club since I was 15 years old,” said Green, who added that he feels “the time is right to pursue my ambitions in Wales”.

Quins head coach Jason Gilmore said Green “stepped up in tough periods for us last season too”.

Green, a former Wales Under-20 international, was born in Sussex and qualifies for Wales through his mother.

He has signed a long-term deal with Cardiff, where he will cover for George Nott, who is retiring next month.
