Wright-Phillips: Redknapp swore at me during row

Shaun Wright-Phillips has told The Sun he was sworn at during a row with QPR manager Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp recently reiterated that he wants Wright-Phillips, 33, to leave Loftus Road, where the former England winger has been out of favour for the best part of three years.

“I went to see Harry but it didn’t go as I was hoping,” he said.

“I don’t know if he thought I was going in for an argument but it certainly wasn’t that and it got a bit heated.

“I just wanted to know what I could do better, how I could improve – just advice really. I didn’t expect to be sworn at.

“I didn’t go in to argue but it turned into a bit of a row. I didn’t want that.”

Redknapp is keen for Wright-Phillips to leave

Wright-Phillips, whose contract expires this summer, has been a major flop since a big-money move from Manchester City in 2011 but insisted he has no idea why he has been overlooked.

“It’s burning me up because I honestly don’t know why,” he said.

“I wish I did because then maybe I could correct something and make it better for all of us. I’ve not had any explanation, nothing to tell me I need to work on this or that.

“It is so frustrating because if I don’t know what I have to do, how can I put it right? If they don’t want me then just say, but no one’s said they don’t want me at the club.

“Just come out and say what it is I need to do. I will listen, I will take it as a man and I will work on it.

“All I want is to know if I have done something wrong, if there is something I need to be doing that I’m not. All I’m asking for is some direction — everyone needs that at some time in their job.

“I just want to play football. I don’t want any QPR fans to feel I am short-changing them. Even if I only had five minutes out there, they’d be five minutes of everything I have.

“I have had a couple of nibbles from clubs but QPR are in a dogfight and I want to help. If they don’t want me, then fair enough, but I’d love nothing better than to be helping QPR fight to stay up.

“I’m not a quitter but don’t know what I have done wrong — and, of course, why no one will tell me.”

  • Couldn't agree more AB, wish you sat behind me rather than the @&ck that waffles rubbish for 90 mins each home game. If he can't cope with Burton, and he didn't , he will not cut it now. No one loses the ball quite as easily as SWP, it's a shame we can't lose him.

  • SWP has been massively over-rated throughout his career, he's amassed a fortune as a professional footballer and yet still cannot cross a ball with any accuracy.
He's a symbol of the lack of professionalism that is likely to bring QPR, a small West London club to its knees. Harry Redknapp is another! I pray that Fernandes and Beard smell the coffee soon, time and money is running out.

  • I went to the open day at Loftus Road, what caught my eye, that lazy little bugger too ldle to put any effort in, laying on the floor and talking to anyone who came alongside. I remember his gobshite father saying when we signed him that this was exactly the transfer he required to get his game back in track, his game is to hold his hand out and to pricisely do nothing. He didn't even celebrate when he mishit the shot to score against the Scum, unforgivable.

  • "Why should he leave? He signed a contract in good faith and he is fulfilling his side of the deal by keeping fit and being vailable to play. Even Redknapp admits that!"

Why should he leave? Well, because he wants to play football, his words. It's clear there's no future for him at QPR. He had a chance to show what he could do at Burton in the League Cup earlier in the season and by all accounts got outplayed by League 2 players.
He says he wants to play football but has then not taken the opportunities to do so when they've come along, probably because he wont be getting £60k a week anywhere else. If he was really that keen, he'd take the pay cut and move on. He's probably worth well over £10m anyway so he wont starve.

    Seems a contradiction to me.

  • Forgive the typos, hurrying back to my work, yes a real job SWP! Fear of my employer!

  • Notice how these type of players come out with this tripe when their contract is due to expire! Disgusting! In a REAL job you would not get away with under performance and still expect to get inflated pay but this is football! We will celebrate when he leaves! The goal against Chelsea shiuld be something to remember but the utter disresoect to qpr fans means ee will quickly forget him!

  • if he was so rubbish and has been hewould play cant cross the ball unable to pass in fact hes a complete joke cant trap the ball , a parasite that could have gone on loan but sat on big wages ,now he will be without a club he makes noise , hes scum full stop ,

  • In 42 full appearances and a number of subs for QPR, he's scored 1 goal and had 4 assists. His number of key passes is around .75. This is for a winger on £60k a week. Nuff said!!!!!

He needs to move on and stop whinging!!!!

  • Why should he leave? He signed a contract in good faith and he is fulfilling his side of the deal by keeping fit and being vailable to play. Even Redknapp admits that!

  • Sean....Do you mean to say that Harry has woken up at last and a player a few home truths. You are well past it and earn a ridiculous wage. How about taking a HUGE pay cut and going elsewhere. You could not find ONE Q P R supporter who wants you. Why are you saying this drivel out aloud. you are obviously not too bright. GO AWAY> ANYWHERE.
