Wilkins: Harry will stay even if QPR go down

Ray Wilkins says QPR may struggle to keep their best players if they are relegated but believes boss Harry Redknapp would remain at the club.

Wilkins, who made more than 200 appearances for Rangers as a player, was manager when they last dropped out of the top flight, in 1996.

And he thinks chairman Tony Fernandes will be able to keep Redknapp at Loftus Road even if the R’s go down.

“I think Redknapp will stay. Fernandes has entrusted him to bring in a number of players and I think Harry will appreciate that and stay,” Wilkins told West London Sport.

“The big problem I can see Rangers having is being able to keep hold of some of the players, but perhaps Redknapp has signed players he feels will stay there if they get relegated.

“Let’s not forget they’ve done some of those players a favour. They took [Chris] Samba out of Russia and did him a favour – so they might need a favour back from some of these players for next season.

“The key will be getting back up. If you can show some of the players they’ve got at the moment that they’re serious about going straight back up, I think those players may give it a blast.”
