Warnock says he wants to be consulted on new QPR boss

Neil Warnock played down the prospect of him being given the QPR manager’s job on a full-time basis after the 0-0 draw against Preston but said he hoped to be involved in the selection procedure.

Former Rangers boss Warnock is back at the helm at Loftus Road, having been placed in interim charge following the club’s sacking of Chris Ramsey this week.

“I’m going to enjoy it for however long I’ve got it – it’s better than being sat at home or fishing,” he said.

“Just being around the fans and the club again is fantastic. When I was asked to do it I had no hesitation.

“I don’t know whether it’s going to be one game, two games or whatever, but I’m going to enjoy it and if I can I’m going to try to help them pick.

“I hope they ask me. They surely will ask my opinion. I think you need someone who knows the Championship. It’s the toughest league in Europe.”

Rangers showed signs of improvement but were unable to find a way past a Preston side that has now kept six consecutive clean sheets.

“There were some plusses. The first half-hour we were alright,” said Warnock.

“I thought Junior Hoilett was superb and Ale Faurlin was super too – they were the two main positives. They haven’t had much game time before.

“Goalscoring is a bit of a problem at the minute, but we’ve got two weeks during the international break to try to sort that out.

“There are some good players here but the squad’s not quite right in some areas. I’ll give my thoughts on that while I’m here.”
