Johansen and Austin fit to return for QPR

QPR skipper Stefan Johansen and Charlie Austin are set to return to the squad for Sunday’s vital clash with Luton at Kenilworth Road.

Johansen missed last Saturday’s home defeat by Cardiff because of illness, with Austin missing the last three games due to a similar issue, but both have returned to training this week.

Striker Lyndon Dykes, who has not played since the 2-0 defeat at Millwall last month due to a leg injury, underwent a fitness test at Harlington on Friday and Rangers boss Mark Warburton is hopeful the Scotland forward will be passed fit to face the Hatters.

“We have had a fitness test on Lyndon to see how he is. The injury has dragged on longer that we would have liked but apart from that we are in good shape,” Warburton said.

“Stef has trained fine all week, Charlie came back this morning and both will be in the squad and available for selection.”

With no midweek fixture to play, Warburton said he and his staff have made the most of the chance to spend quality time on the training pitch to prepare for the clash against the team that moved above his side and into the play-off places after victory at Coventry on Tuesday.

“We have had a good week of training, got a lot of good work done and are really looking forward to two big games coming up,” Warburton said.

“We talk about the demand of the schedule but this has been the opportunity to do some proper work – Tuesday and Wednesday were two very hard days.

“We had some good pitch work time and got some good strength work into them.

“It is a massive boost to be able to do that.”
