De Wijs expected to return to QPR squad

Jordy de Wijs is back in training and is expected to be available for QPR against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The centre-back has been out since picking up a groin injury during last month’s draw at Reading.

His fitness was due to be assessed on Friday morning to see whether he will start this weekend’s game.

Manager Mark Warburton explained: “He’s been training with us all week and is available for selection.

“We’ll see how he trains today. We’ve also got the options of Ossie Kakay and other people back as well. We’ll see how he trains today, but he’s been fit.”

De Wijs has managed just four appearances since being signed on loan from Hull City in January.

A calf problem meant he had to wait two months to make his debut and his latest injury came after the Dutchman impressed at the heart of Rangers’ defence.

Warburton said: “He was unlucky when he came down. He had a niggling soleus injury which is so difficult to lose - Lee Wallace had it, others have had it.

“Then he got that groin injury, but he’s come back quickly from there.

“So we wish him well and hopefully he comes in and does a really good job when he’s available.”

Meanwhile, Warburton has said he is "very disappointed" by three-match ban given to Charlie Austin.
